Betty Oglethorpe Veghts, 83, of Naperville, Illinois, and formerly of Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pa., died Friday, August 1, 2003 in Sunrise Assisted Living, Naperville. She was born November 2, 1919 in German Township, Fayette County, Pa., daughter of Joseph Oglethorpe and Nora Connolly Oglethorpe.

Betty graduated from the former Dunbar Township High School with the Class of 1936.

She had worked as a Secretary for Anchor Hocking Corporation in South Connellsville, Pa., and later for the Federal Government in the Department of Health Education & Welfare from where she retired in 1978.

She was a former member of the former Little Summit United Methodist Church.

Three brothers, Robert, James and Raymond Oglethorpe, five sisters, Nellie DeMott, Mary Klink, Ethel Stanchin, Pauline Morgan, Beatrice Mongello, and parents preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by her loving son, Nick Veghts and his wife, Faye, of Naperville, Illinois; three grandchildren: Angela Veghts, Brian Veghts and Bart Veghts; and a great grandson, Nicholas Veghts. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Family and Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Lung Association, 6041 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112 in memory of Betty Oglethorpe Veghts.
