Kennywood changes to greet Brownsville residents
As Brownsville residents make their 90th trip to Kennywood Park on Thursday, there will be many new things to digest, including new food items, entertainment, as well as the new ride, King Kahuna. King Kahuna, located in the new Volcano Valley between the office and Noah’s Ark, is a churning, spinning, awesome new ride that promises to take your breath away. Volcano Valley also includes the Pirate, the Volcano (think erupting Enterprise) and even the office.
Also new this year is the Ham on Rye Theater located at the entrance to Lost Kennywood. It is a participatory computer animated adventure in which 10 audience members compete to win. Participants use individual virtual reality headsets to see and hear the animated adventure and to communicate with each other and the live performer who leads them through the game.
New culinary treats this year include Deep Fired Oreos, Curly Garlic Fries, Cappuccino, Scara’s New York Gourmet Italian Ice, Ben & Jerry’s Novelty Bars and Jalapeno Stuffed Pretzels.
The Garden Stage will feature American Band, music from the Woodstock generation and Bandstand Blast, a non-stop 50s and 60s review. The Kennyville stage will feature Blazing Idiots, a comedy western gunfight show for all ages.
Throughout the park you will hear the Kennywood Swing Band and of course Garfield, Odie & Kenny the Kangaroo.
The South Side, North Side, West Side and Newell Volunteer Fire Departments sponsor the annual event. The local fire companies will benefit from the tickets purchased locally. Don’t forget you can purchase your thickets on line at www.Kennywood.com/BrownsvilleCFM and the fire companies will receive credit.
Ride all day tickets will be $19 and general admission tickets are $6. Tickets can be purchased at the South Side, North Side and West Brownsville fire halls from 1 to 9 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the North Side Fire Hall on picnic day from 8 a.m. to noon.
