Fire extinguished

Five fire departments responded to a call at 3:09 Monday afternoon for a trailer fire at 510 Heisterberg Road.

The Isabella Volunteer Fire Department was the first on the scene and quickly had the fire extinguished. According to Fire Chief Jimmy Dugan, the fire was limited to the kitchen area, though there was smoke damage throughout the trailer.

Dugan said the trailer’s owner, Bob Hersh, was not home at the time of the fire. The state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

Charges pending

When Brownsville police stopped a speeding car on Greene Street at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, both the driver and the passenger ran from the vehicle. Police first caught the passenger, a 19-year-old black male, who reportedly had a scale with suspected drug residue on it in his back pocket and $119 in his front pocket. Charges against him are pending the results of testing from the state police crime lab.

Charges are also pending against the driver of the vehicle for reportedly driving while under suspension.

Gun found

A gun was found in the grass at Broad and Lewis streets Saturday at 10:34 a.m. The Smith and Wesson .40 semi-automatic stainless steel Model 4053 had an eight-round clip in it with seven live rounds in the clip. According to police, the weapon has a damaged laser sight. The gun was sent to the state police crime lab.

Criminal mischief

Robert Pritts of 409 Pearl St. told Brownsville police that someone broke the power antenna off of his vehicle and scratched the paint sometime between 1 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

James Dillin of 447 Union St. told Brownsville police that someone in a truck shot out his front window with a BB gun. The incident was reported July 31 at 8:07 p.m.

Man with a gun

Brownsville police were called to Cemetery Road July 31 at 3:35 a.m. for a report of a man waving a gun around. The man fled as police arrived. Charges are pending.

Accident

Two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident at Market and Fourth streets in Brownsville around noon on July 31.

The accident occurred as Kimberly Workman, 45, of 57 Vesta Seven Road, Brownsville, stopped to make a left turn onto Fourth Street. The tractor-trailer behind her stopped about 20 feet from her vehicle and a third vehicle pulled between them, also intending to make a left turn.

Charles Winters, 32, of East Fredericktown Road, East Millsboro, told police that when Workman’s vehicle began to turn, the truck, driven by Ronald Kirkwood, 34, of 719 Second St., Brownsville, moved forward and hit the back of his car. Winter’s car was then pushed into the back of Workman’s vehicle.

Winter told police he was suffering from neck pain and Workman was taken to Brownsville General Hospital with complaints of back pain.

There was no damage to the truck, moderate damage to Winter’s vehicle and light damage to Workman’s vehicle.

Fight broken up

Brownsville police were called to Clover Street at 2:45 a.m. July 31 for a fight between two men. The police broke up the fight. Charges will be filed.

Officer injured

A Brownsville police officer was punched in the face while attempting to break up a large group of people fighting outside Bump City on Water Street. The incident occurred July 31 at 1:50 a.m. Charges are pending against several people.

Recovered vehicle

A Ford Explorer reported stolen from Jefferson Township was found behind the Brownsville township Building on Brown St. The vehicle was found July 30 at 1:40 a.m. It was towed from the scene. State police are handling the complaint.

Monthly report

Borough police responded to 198 requests for police services during the month of July and made 13 arrests last month, according to a report released Monday by Police Chief Richard Barron.

Police responded to 17 criminal mischief complaints, to four violations of borough ordinances, 19 thefts, seven domestic disputes, six accidents, six abandoned vehicles, nine alarms, nine fireworks complaints, one case of public drunkenness, four complaints of harassment by communication, 12 disturbances, seven juvenile complaints, two suicide attempts, one neighbor dispute, two burglaries, two stolen vehicles, one aggravated assaults, and one missing person.

A total of $52,160 in property was reported lost or stolen last month, and $18,536 in property was recovered during July, according to the report. Police also issued 15 traffic citations last month, the report stated.

July report

The township police received 151 calls during the month of July, according to a report issued Monday by Police Chief William F. Lewis Sr.

Police responded to 12 disturbance calls, seven theft reports and seven criminal mischief calls, eight police information calls, five harassment calls, five burglary calls, three burglary investigations, two assault calls, two animal control calls, two suspicious person calls and one call each of domestic violence and sexual assault and one call to assist another police department.

Ten traffic citations were issued and three people were charged with driving without a license, the report said. Police made one arrest each for DUI, harassment, theft of services, underage drinking, disorderly conduct and trespassing.
