Alex Pekar
Alex (Butch) Pekar, 76, formerly of Taylortown, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in the Falling Waters Nursing Home, Strongsville, Ohio. He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Greene County, Pa., son of the late John and Susan Gelda Pekar.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church of Bobtown. He was retired from the J & L Steel Corporation, Shannopin Mine, Bobtown, and had also been a school bus driver for the Southeastern Greene School District.
He as a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan M. Smith and her husband, Ron of Parma, Ohio, and Sharon Bodnar and husband, Ron of Columbia Station, Ohio; one son, Mark Pekar of Dilliner, Pa.; four grandchildren, Brad, Amanda, Robert and Jodi; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Andrew Pekar and Steve Pekar of Bobtown; and one sister, Clara Bailey of Myrtle Beach, S.C..
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Margaret L. Pekar on Nov. 27, 1990; one brother, John Pekar; and three sisters, Julia Mackanich, Mary Sereg and Pearl Kurilko.
Friends will be received in THE LOUIS E. RUDOLPH FUNERAL HOME, 15 Main St., Point Marion, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Brief prayers will be said in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., in St. Ignatius R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. Lawrence Holpp officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion. Full military services will be held at the graveside by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Point Marion. A Parish Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 8:30 p.m., in the funeral home.
