Frances J. Benzio
Frances Jean Benzio, 82, of Connellsville, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital.
She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Export, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Frances (Susa) Podgorsek.
Frances was a graduate of Export High School. For many years, she owned and operated Benzio Dairy Farm on Narrows Road. Later, she was employed by Montgomery Wards as a cook, until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the Owensdale United Methodist Church, SNPJ#117, and the Connellsville Senior Tigers, who she assisted with Meals on Wheels for many years. She also enjoyed singing with the Slovene Cultural Group of Western Pennsylvania, and reading and completing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by four sons, Karl and wife, Joyce of New Hope, Pa., David and wife, Linda of Connellsville, Benjamin and wife, Donna of Connellsville, and Edward and wife, Barbara of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Louise Keister and husband, B.J. of Gambrills, Md., Elaine Hild and husband, Gary of Falmouth, Va., Mary Provance-Bowley and husband, James of Farmington, Pa., and Woodbridge, N.J., and Annette Benzio of Vienna, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Jonell Benzio of Bellefonte, Pa.; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Podgorsek of New Stanton; two sisters, Evelyn Benzio of Wyano, Pa., and Violet Rhome of Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Benzio in 1968; two daughters, Carolyn, in infancy, and Frances Schouten; and a son, Robert Benzio.
Friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 North Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 until noon. A funeral service will follow in Owensdale United Methodist Church at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
