Addie James Burton, 76, of 393 Round Barn Road, Vanderbilt, Pa., slipped peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday evening, August 21, 2003 from his residence surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Addie was born on December 22, 1926 in Dickerson Run, Pa., a son of Addie Daniel Burton and Virginia Walker Burton.

He served 11 months in the United States Army and retired from United Stated Steel Corporation’s Clairton Works after 37 years of service.

He was also a lifetime Farmer until illness.

Addie was a member of United Baptist Church in Connellsville, Pa., where he served as Chairman of the Deacon and Trustee Boards.

In his leisure time and in retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors and watching sports.

He bowled for many years with leagues at Yough Lanes, Connellsville, and also Manor Lanes in Hopwood, Pa.

Addie was preceded in death by brothers William and Lester Burton, sister, Beatrice Burton Sheppherd, and his parents.

Addie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Jones Burton of the home; sons: James H. Burton and his wife, Regina, of Vanderbilt, Pa., and Robert W. Burton and his wife, Ann, of Fairmont, West Virginia; daughters: Cynthia M. Lindsey and her husband, James, of Canonsburg, Pa., and Betty L. Oliver of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren: Robert Abedjos and his girlfriend, Jenny, of Uniontown, Pa., Michael B. Burton of Vanderbilt, Pa., Michele R. Burton of Greensboro, North Carolina, Addie L. Burton of Brownsville, Pa., Beth L. Oliver, Anitra I. Oliver, Lydia G. Oliver and Rozzalyn L. Oliver all of Philadelphia, Pa.; six step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers: John Burton of South Connellsville, Pa., and Frank Burton of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters: Margaret Clark of Maryland and Mary Hagwood of Youngstown, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sara Johnson of the home; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Family will receive Friends at United Baptist Church, 126 North First Street, Connellsville, Pa., on Monday from 5 until 9 p.m.

His Funeral will be held in the Church on Tuesday, August 26, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Albert Winfrey, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Dickerson Run Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa.
