Pedestrian killed

State police in Belle Vernon said a pedestrian was killed at the Smithton Truck Stop early Friday when he walked into a garbage truck driven by Jeremy S. Johnson of Mill Run and was pulled under the rear wheels.

Caswell Smart, 33, of Somerset, N.J., was pronounced dead at the scene following the 3:55 a.m. accident, police said. Smart, who was driving a truck owned by St. Cloud, Minn.-based ATS, reportedly was at the truck stop to get cleaned up.

Johnson, who was driving a Greenridge Waste Services truck, was not injured.

Man arrested

Isiah Colbert, 20, of 13 Furlong Court, was arrested at 5 p.m. Thursday in Pershing Court on a warrant charging him with intimidation of witnesses or victims and harassment, city police said.

Colbert and Earl Robert Casteel, 20, of 21 W. Coffey St. have been charged robbing Tyrone Hyatt, who is handicapped and confined to a wheelchair, on Aug. 10 in an alley behind Gallatin Avenue.

Police said Colbert told Hyatt on Aug. 11 not to talk to police about the incident.

Burglary reported

A garage at 23 John St. was found broken into at 8:14 a.m. Thursday, city police said. Charles Price reported that two 16-inch Stihl chainsaws, a Stihl concrete saw and a yellow toolbox filled with tools were stolen.

Theft investigated

State police said four known suspects stole credit cards from Carol Cassler of Ligonier and used them to charge purchases at various stores. The theft occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon Aug. 18 at 203 Maple St.

Fountain damaged

City police said the water fountain at the Grant Street Park was damaged and water was shooting about 10 feet into the air at 4 a.m. Friday. The water was shut off until repairs can be made.

Burglary reported

The Star Junction Gun Club was broken into at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 21 and 10 six-packs of beer were stolen, state police said.

Redstone Twp.

License plate stolen

Pennsylvania registration plate DCB-9461 was stolen Aug. 20 or 21 from a vehicle owned by Daniel Joseph Palaisa, 50, Fairbank along Filbert Orient Road, state police said.

Men arrested

State police arrested Dwight Davis, 19, of Pittsburgh, Leanard Stenhouse, 20, of Pittsburgh and James Gillcrese, 19, of Pittsburgh between 4 and 5 a.m. Tuesday for their connection to a burglary of a Hunter’s Ridge apartment and the theft of a vehicle. The three men were arraigned before a district justice and jailed at Fayette County Prison in lieu of $20,000 straight bonds, police said.

A lock on a Pepsi vending machine was damaged Aug. 20 or 21 on Main Street, state police said. The victim was Ed and Mark’s Locksmith.

Runaway reported

State police said 17-year-old Ashley L. Brooks ran away from a home at 450 Twin Hill Road, where she was placed in temporary foster care, between 9 p.m. Aug. 21 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 22. She is described as white, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 120 pounds, with brown hair.

Warrant issued

State police said a warrant was issued for Jeremiah Youler of Smithfield after he allegedly struck Jamie Lewellen of Smithfield at 4:55 a.m. July 30.

Burglary

Police are seeking information in connection with a Friday burglary of a Mason Village residence.

According to police, someone broke into the property occupied by Kimberly Didrovo sometime between 1 and 3:30 p.m. and removed money and cigarettes.

Property stolen

Someone broke into a vehicle on the Summit Motors used-car lot and stole the car’s stereo receiver between 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Monday, state police said.

Window shot

Julie Tokar of Perryopolis told state police a bullet was shot through a window in her house between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. No one was injured.

Accident

Three persons were injured when the car in which they were riding struck a utility pole along Poplar Run Road.

The operator of the 1989 Dodge Dynasty, Holly A. Grimm, 19, and passengers Donna Grimm, 40, and Brittany Grimm, 14, all of Normalville received minor to moderate injuries in the accident.

A fourth passenger, James Grimm, 12, of Normalville, was not injured.

Police said Holly Grimm lost control of the vehicle as it rounded a curve along the road.

South Union Twp.

Two-vehicle collision

Three persons were injured when the vehicles in which they were riding collided along Morgantown Road on Wednesday.

According to police, Justin McNemar, 21, of Leckrone, was stopped in traffic when he was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Kenneth Rozzell, 42, of Uniontown.

Rozzell, McNemar, and a passenger in the NcNemar vehicle, Elizabeth Yauger, 18, also of Leckrone received minor injuries in the accident.

Two other passengers in the McNemar vehicle, Christine Yauger, 3, and Justin McNemar Jr., 8 months, were not injured.

Public drunkenness

Roy T. Cleaver, 29, of Point Marion was charged with public drunkenness after he was allegedly found in an intoxicated condition and sleeping along South Main Street on Aug. 17.

Accident

Joe Rodrigues, 40, no address given, was injured when he lost control of his 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle along Route 119, near Point Marion. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Juvenile apprehended

State police arrested a 17-year-old male for retail theft at the Nemacolin Woodlands Outdoor World at 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Store security apprehended the juvenile after observing him allegedly conceal bow equipment valued at $109.

Penny S. Daniels of Mill Run reported to state police that someone removed her 2001 Honda Civic from a parking lot.

Hit-and-run reported

Phillip M. Jones, no age or address given, reported to state police that someone backed into his 2002 Chrysler while it was parked in the Giant Eagle parking lot on Thursday. The vehicle sustained minor rear end damage.

Criminal mischief

Kevin M. McIntosh of Dunbar reported to state police that someone broke five windows and damaged the mirrors of his 1992 Saturn sometime between Aug. 13 and Aug. 21.

Vehicles damaged

State police said the rear window of a Chevrolet Cavalier and the rear window and windshield of a Pontiac Grand Am were smashed at the Derry Hill Road residence of Thomas and Michelle Chabank of Smithfield sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Matthew Burkholder of Vanderbilt reported to state police that a known juvenile struck him in the face and broke the car door window of his vehicle during an early Saturday incident along Archbridge Road.

Denise A. McQuaide of Point Marion reported to state police that someone threw a rock at her 2002 Ford Focus and damaged the windshield on Friday.

Man assaulted, vehicle burned

State police said three white males allegedly assaulted Peter James Dominick, 23, of McClellandtown and then burned the vehicle Dominick was driving at the end of Ferry Road Saturday.

Citations issued

State police cited James T. Campbell, 22, of Uniontown with harassment and Erica J. Dinunno, 21, of Uniontown for criminal mischief after Campbell allegedly choked Dinunno, and Dinunno reportedly kicked a window out of Campbell’s screen door at 305 Hayman Road at 4:40 p.m. Friday.

Burglary investigated

State police said someone entered the property of Maple Mountain Equipment, cut two padlocks on two storage trailers, removed chainsaws and weed trimmers and damaged a soda-vending machine sometime between Thursday and Friday. Police said the investigation continues.
