George Thomas Riggen Sr.
George Thomas “Archie” Riggen Sr., age 78, a guest at Beverly HealthCare, Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2003 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born December 12, 1914 in Smock, Pa., the son of George Riggen and Sara Catherine Harbarger Riggen.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Army in Italy, Austria and France with Company E 86th Infantry. Decorations and citations awarded included the Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations Service Ribbon.
George was a retired Truck Driver formerly employed at Eazor Express in Pittsburgh, Pa.
His wife, Barbara Smith Riggen, an infant daughter, Linda Kay Riggen, four sisters, Elizabeth, Edna, Violet, and Alice, four brothers, John, Harold, Bernard, and infant brother Clarence, and parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, George Thomas Riggen Jr. and his wife, Lydia “Sue”, of Lemont Furnace, Pa.; a daughter, Sandy Riggen Szabo McGill, and four grandchildren, Michelle Hall of Footedale, Pa., William Szabo Jr. and wife Chantel, Brady Szabo and wife April, and Brandi Szabo, all of Connellsville, Pa.; six great grandchildren: Donald Taylor, Breanna Hall, Rachael Szabo, Matthew Szabo, William Szabo III and Tristin Szabo; two sisters: Mrs. Perry (Shirley) Gutherie of Fairchance, Pa., and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Sims of Hinkley, Ohio; one brother, Clinton “Dutch” Riggen of Eastlake, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Private Funeral Services for family only will be held at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC. AT SYLVAN HEIGHTS CEMETERY, A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday, August 26, with Pastor Allen Owens of Calvary Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
