Irene Marietta
Irene Gouker Marietta, 91, of Dunbar, Pa., went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown. She was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Dunbar, the daughter of the late Charles Gouker and the late Sarah Pierce Gouker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ewing Marietta, who died in 1964; brothers, John “Wes” Gouker, Roy Gouker and Arthur Gouker; sister, the Rev. Susan Gouker; and two infant siblings.
She graduated from Dunbar Township High School, Class of 1930, was a retired clerk at Marietta’s Store of Dunbar, employed by G. C. Murphy at the time of the opening of the Uniontown store, and was Dunbar correspondent for the Evening Standard for 20 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Connellsville, served as President of American Baptist Women (Monongahela Baptist Association), and served as President of the American Baptist Fellowship of Dunbar.
Surviving are sons, Charles Marietta and wife, Lois of Somerset and Jon Marietta and wife, Linda of Masontown; a sister, Sarah Riser of Bellefonte, Pa.; a brother, Pete Gouker of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jon Marietta and wife, Patty, Ewing Marietta and wife, Tami, Cheryl Ulrich and husband, Scott, Susann Pryor and husband, Michael and Charles Marietta; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville St., Dunbar, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday. Interment will be in Green Ridge Cemetery.
