Family homeless

A family of five was left homeless Wednesday when fire heavily damaged one of three bedrooms in a mobile home in which they resided along Breakneck Road.

Firefighters from Bullskin Township were the first to arrive at the scene assisted by Connellsville Township, Morrell and Everson fire companies.

Joe Liska, Bullskin Township fire chief, said the fire broke out about 2 p.m. in a back bedroom, causing extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the mobile home. As a result, the family was forced to seek temporary shelter.

“Thank heavens no one was home,” said Liska.

Although the fire was contained to the bedroom, Liska said the flames also damaged the floor and roof in that area.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about 90 minutes until the fire was successfully put out.

Liska said the family had Christmas gifts in a different part of the mobile home that probably weren’t damaged.

Because the family was unable to occupy the structure, Liska said he contacted the Red Cross.

Liska added the state police fire marshal is continuing to investigate the fire’s cause.
