Herald-Standard readers send more gifts for fund drive”Yeah!’ yelled Sparkle as Herald-Standard readers sent in another $405 to Give A Christmas, bringing the total to $2,132.
“That’s terrific,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star who is the mascot for the campaign. “We’ve raised a good bit of money in just one week, but we’re going to have to work even harder if we’re going to reach our goal of $40,000. Remember that all this money is going to help the Salvation Army help folks in your communities. You are helping your neighbor when you participate.’ The latest donations included a $200 gift from Bruderhof Communities of Farmington. Donations also came from Point Marion, Newell, Smithfield, Masontown, Perryopolis and Connellsville.
“Thank you very much to everyone who has contributed,’ said Sparkle. “It really means a lot.’
Sparkle also received some nice notes:
“Dear Sparkle, Thank you for making each Christmas special for so many children. May this Christmas bring peace and joy to all.’ Your friends at Bruderhof Communities, Farmington.
“Dear Sparkle, We wish we could give more. Keep up the good work. We would like to donate this money in memory of Tubby Howell and Al Howell.’ Love and blessings, Sandy and Dee Howell and family, Smithfield.
“Dear Sparkle, For all your past efforts, I put Give a Christmas at the top of my Christmas list this year. For my grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Rebecca, Alexandria, Rachel, Sarah, Joseph, Abigail and Amanda. Merry Christmas Sparkle.’ Jean Borsodi, Point Marion.
“Thank you all so much,’ said Sparkle. “And anyone who is thinking about giving a donation, there’s no time like the present.’
