The church announces the Sunday school will present a dramatization of the night of Jesus’ birth on Dec. 12 and 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. See various scenes depicting the story of Jesus’ birth, from the angel’s announcement to Mary and to the shepherds in the field and culminating with the live Nativity scene at the front of the church. Pleasant View is again participating in the Salvation Army’s Treasures for Children project. The first names, ages, clothing sizes and general interests of 40 special needs children have been distributed among the church family with a request that appropriate clothing and/or a toy be purchased for each child. Church family participants are reminded that the gifts are due back this Sunday. The gifts are not to be wrapped but the treasure tag from the Treasure Tree should be securely attached to the purchases. The Salvation Army will distribute the packages to these special needs youths on the church’s behalf.
Pleasant View’s Campbell Men’s Bible Class, in conjunction with the Christian Education Committee, will sponsor Pleasant View’s Annual Holiday Dinner and Program on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The meal will be provided without charge and will include choice of entr?e (either fish or stuffed pork loin roast or stuffed chicken breast), parsley potatoes, green beans almondine and beverage. A 45-minute program featuring the Pleasant View Players and audience-participation carol singing will follow dinner. Santa has been invited.
The Presbytery of Redstone is again participating in a regional outreach campaign this Advent. Come In Out of the Cold Bring a Friend Sunday will be Dec. 14. The Reach-0ut Team has challenged the church family to bring as many friend and neighbors as possible for worship. Rev. Conover said, “Our goal is to double our worship attendance on that Sunday. However, beyond the numbers, our far more important purpose is to encourage folks who might not otherwise do so to experience the Gospel good news of Jesus Christ firsthand. We want others to know personally the warmth, caring and love of God through a non-threatening, comfortable and meaningful experience with our worshipping church family.’
ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., announces “Hope’ is the theme of the second Advent Candle Wreath Service at 11 a.m. Sunday. Dressed in costumes of the time of the birth of Christ, four congregation volunteers will offer their “Reflections’ as the second Advent candle is lit: Joseph Kelly as the shepherd, Marguerite Bethem as the shopper, Don Shipley as the alcoholic and Lorraine Kelly as a homeless person.
The chancel choir will sing, directed by Mary Catherine Schmidt and accompanied by pianist Tina Bolin. Choir practice will be held immediately following the service in the sanctuary.
The Rev. Dr. John Rankin will give a sermon focused on “Hope’ of the Advent season.
Faith Seekers, the adult Sunday school class, which meets in the manse, begins at 9:30 a.m. Coffee is available. This week’s discussion is on Na-aman’s Wife’s Made and the Queen of Sheba in the yearlong study of Women of the Bible. Sunday school for children three and up begins at 9:45 a.m. in fellowship hall.

ST. HUBERT ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 9 Sadler St., Point Marion, which recently had its church building destroyed by fire, will continue to offer weekday Masses at 9 a.m. in the CCD Center, which is situated behind the church. Weekend Masses will continue to be held at the Lions Skating Center on Railroad Street until further notice. They will take place Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 8 and 11 a.m. The CCD program that offers religious education to youths will continue as normal in the CCD Center.
In addition, the Altar-Rosary/Christian Mothers of St. Hubert Church will host their annual Christmas dinner on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jedo’s on the Mon. Participants will leave the parish parking lot at 1:30 p.m.
The members of the Holy Name Society will conduct their third consecutive Day of Recollection on Sunday, Dec. 14. Starting at 2 p.m., members and guests will gather in the C.C.D.
