Elizabeth Hoover Martin Bryan, 93, a former resident of Masontown, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Oakton Va., after suffering a stroke. Mrs. Bryan was born Oct. 27, 1910, in Masontown, Pa., daughter of Frank J. Martin and Josephine Hoover Martin.

She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in 1928, and taught school in Ronco, Pa., before her marriage to Charles Bryan in 1931. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Masontown, Pa., and served as an active member in several Presbyterian churches as an ordained Deacon, an honored associate in children education, and as a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Women’s Association program agency of the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years and a member of the D.A.R. Over the course of her lifetime, she resided in Fredericktown, Pa., Dormont, Pa., Bethpage, N.Y., and Langhorne Manor, Pa., returning to her hometown of Masontown, in 1990. In more recent years, she resided in Northern Virginia.

Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 56 years, Dr. Charles H. Bryan, who died in 1987, a brother, Clarence V. Martin, and a sister, Martha M. Breakwell.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Frank S. Bryan and his wife, Sally of Greensburg, Pa., and Nevin C. Bryan and his wife, Marie of Masontown, Pa.; a daughter, Betsy-Jo Sadtler and her husband, Edward of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The Family will receive friends today at 10 a.m., in the First Presbyterian Church of Masontown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., in the church, with the Rev. James F. Giesey officiating. Interment will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to United Presbyterian Women’s Association, Medical Offering, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 102 West Church Ave., Masontown, PA 15461. Eastern Star will hold services just prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of THE H. DAVID MCELROY FUNERAL HOME, McClellandtown, Pa.
