State police investigate goat death
State police are continuing to investigate an incident involving six hunters, three gunshots and a dead goat along Spruce Hollow Road and Breakneck Road Saturday in Saltlick Township. According to police reports, Charles Glenn Kasiewicz of White was charged before District Justice Deberah Kula with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and simple assault after he fired at least one shot at a vehicle operated by Eric Yauger of Fayette County. An Alverton man also remains a suspect in the case.
Police said Yauger and passengers Shane Yauger, David Yauger and a 14-year-old boy had been hunting deer and were traveling along Spruce Hollow Road when they observed what they through to be deer ahead. Both Shane and Eric Yauger got out of the vehicle and fired at the animal, killing it.
According to police the two men killed a pet goat owned by Kasiewicz who was hunting with the Alverton man in the woods nearby. Both men heard the shots and returned to the scene as the vehicle driven by Yauger approached.
Police said the Alverton man then followed the Yauger vehicle with his own vehicle while Kasiewicz attempted to stop Yauger by pointing his 30.06 rifle at the vehicle. Yauger continued to drive past Kasiewicz who then fired a shot into the tire of the vehicle.
Police said two additional shots were fired at the Yauger’s car as it traveled away with a flat tire from the first blast. Police said that Kasiewicz and the suspect followed Yauger for 3 or 4 miles after the incident before Yauger lost control of the car and crashed into a guide rail.
Police said the four victims then fled the scene to a nearby residence to seek assistance.
Police said Kasiewicz had bond set at $5,000 unsecured and that an investigation continues concerning the Alverton man. All firearms were recovered from the scene.
