Herald-Standard readers are coming through for Give A Christmas, sending $1,876.03 in the latest donations and raising the total to $9,552.39. “Wow! That’s fantastic,’ exclaimed Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign.

Donations came from Uniontown, Masontown, New Salem, Farmington, Grindstone, Orient, Lake Lynn, McClellandtown, Adah, New Salem, Vanderbilt, Brownsville, Smock and East Millsboro.

Donations included $200 from Art and Millie Gabriel of Uniontown as well as $100 gifts from State Rep. Lawrence Roberts of Uniontown, Glenn and Mary Jean Townsend of Masontown, Walnut Hill United Methodist Women of Uniontown, Grindstone Lions Club and Mr. and Mrs. William C. Mosser Jr. of Vanderbilt.

Other groups that participated included the Children’s Department at Christ United Methodist Church in Uniontown, Palmer Community Church in Adah, Brownsville Area SEIU employees and friends, and the Herald-Standard Photo Department Coffee Fund.

“That’s terrific. Thank you all for your generosity,’ said Sparkle.

The Christmas star has also been informed of a fund-raising program for Sparkle through the Albert Gallatin Area High School. The program involves more than 40 themed baskets filled with donations by local businesses, students and staff.

“Thank you so much for doing this,’ said Sparkle. “I hope everyone supports this effort.’

The Christmas star also received Christmas cards from Barbara Moore of Uniontown and George and Mary Homa of Masontown and some nice notes:

“Dear Sparkle, My donation is in memory of my beloved husband, Welday R. Anderson. He loved Christmas, too.’ Wilma Anderson of Uniontown.

“In memory of David A. Mosser, J. Emerson Frantz and William C. Mosser Sr. We hope you reach your goal!’ Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Mosser Jr.

“Sparkle, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.’ Lorna Johnson of Uniontown, in memory of Bob and Otha Johnson and my family.

“This donation is in honor of our 10 grandchildren: Matthew, Lauren, Stephanie, Eric, Nicholas and Luke Gabriel, Melanie, Brianna, Alexis and Cassandra Hoffman, and in honor of our youngest daughter and her husband Alex and Tamara Skroupa, who haven’t begun their family yet. Keep up the good works Sparkle.’ Art and Millie Gabriel of Uniontown.

“Dear Sparkle, I am enclosing this check to help some little girls and boys to have a Merry Christmas in memory of my mother, Mrs. Evelyn Girard and Ethel Foster Welch Sr., and our grandchildren, Alyssa, Brittany, Christopher and Katelyn. We sure hope that you will be able to reach your goal. Hope everyone will have a Blessed Christmas.’ Foster and Kathleen Welch of Uniontown.

“Sparkle, Enclosed is a check. If this will help put a smile on at least one child’s fact it will make my Christmas a whole lot nicer. Keep up the good work.’ Larry Roberts, state representative.

“Thank you again so much for these nice notes and all your donations,’ said Sparkle. “But remember, we are only collecting funds through Dec. 23 at noon – that’s next Tuesday. And we want to raise $40,000 to help the Salvation Army. Won’t you please send your donation now?’

To contribute, send donations to Give A Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown 15401 or bring your gift to the front desks of the Herald-Standard offices in Uniontown, Brownsville and Connellsville weekdays during business hours.
