Josephine (Smocer) Marhefka, 79, of Uniontown, Pa., formerly of Smock, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Smock, Pa., daughter of Andrew and Josephine (Kellar) Smocer.

Her parents; husband, John J. Marhefka; a brother, Tony Smocer; and a sister, Helen Smocer preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Hediwg Roman Catholic Church of Smock, and had been a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Surviving are four children, Thomas J. Marhefka and wife, Marsha of Uniontown, Eileen Marhefka and husband, Gregg Thompson of Falls Church, Va., Rosann Humbert and husband, Bill of Uniontown, Pa., and John Marhefka and Dale City, Va.; four grandchildren, Kellie Marhefka, Salena Davis, John Bradley Marhefka and Meghan Humbert; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Cecelia Batya and Marge Conti, both of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., at Sylvan Heights Cemetery A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, Pa., today from 5 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday until 9:15 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m., in St. Hedwig R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Smock. A Parish Wake Service will be held today at 8:30 p.m.
