The results of the 2003 Give A Christmas campaign are in, and the final total stands at $36,153.85. While the campaign didn’t reach its goal of raising $40,000 for the Salvation Army, it came close.

“And I think that’s great,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star and official mascot for the campaign.

The last donations amounted to $6,905.85, which included a gift of $2,163 from the students and staff of Laurel Highlands Middle School, $1,762.46 from Robert Caldwell and the Uniontown High School Academic World Culture Classes and $1,000 from W. Gerald and Carolyn Blaney of Chalk Hill.

“I’m impressed,’ said Sparkle. “We appreciate all their efforts.’

Other donations Tuesday included $261.39 from Laurel Highlands Senior High, $190 from Seaton & Bowman of Uniontown, $140 from Coldwell Banker Uniontown Office Realtors Jennifer Stafford, Diane Zinn, Rickey Brady, Jonathan Radcliffe, Tony Tserafino, Mary Lou Frantz and Jim Woleslagle; $200 from Larraine Susa of Larraine Susa’s Dance Unlimited of Uniontown, and $100 from anonymous in Uniontown.

“Wow! Thank you all so much,’ said Sparkle.

Other groups that participated included Triangle Class of Great Bethel Baptist Church of Uniontown, owners and employees of Clar-Mac Furniture and Appliance Sales of Point Marion, Giuseppe Mazzini Lodge No. 231 of Uniontown, Sons of Italy; and Calvin United Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid, Session and Sunday School children and teachers, Chelsey, Bryon, Nicole, Skye, Jonathan, Mackenzie, Allisyn, Jessica, Phillip, DJ, Jamie Tiffini, Rhonda Martini, Kathy Bajtos, Darlene Jacobs and the Rev. Aleta Menchyk.

“It’s wonderful when people get together to help,’ said Sparkle.

Sparkle also received some nice notes:

“Dear Sparkle, Please accept this donation from Laurel Highlands Middle School students and staff. We had a lot of activities to help us raise the money. Along with ‘hat’ and ‘pajama’ days for the students and ‘jeans’ day for the staff, we also had chances to win a yearbook and school sweatshirts. We had a great time and collected a total of $2,163. We hope it helps you in reaching your goal. Good luck!’ The students and the staff of Laurel Highlands Middle School.

“Dear Sparkle and crew, Wishing you a blessed Christmas and a happy and peaceful new year. My academic World Cultures classes once again led the way collecting for the Give A Christmas drive at Uniontown High School. We were overwhelmed by the response from students, staff members and their families who helped us raise a total of $1,762.46. Merry Christmas and God bless.’ Robert D. Caldwell and the UHS Academic World Cultures Classes.

“Dear Sparkle, May God bless you Sparkle for all the good work you do. We were blessed with a beautiful, healthy grandson. This donation is in honor of him, Ashton Ronald Brown. Merry Christmas to all.’ Pat and Angela Kustron of McClellandtown.

“Sparkle, This donation is in memory of Michael and Martha Susa. Good luck in reaching your goal.’ Larraine Susa of Uniontown.

“I know I already sent a donation but decided to send another. It’s such a good cause.’ Margaret Angelo of Fairchance.

“Enclosed is my donation to the Give A Christmas fund. Merry Christmas!’ Michelle Korona of Uniontown.

“Dear Sparkle, Enclosed is my donation in memory of my husband Glenn Smiley, daughter Sandi and daughter-in-law Denise. I’m sending a prayer that you will meet your goal and wish for all a blessed Christmas.’ Betty Smiley of Uniontown.

“Dear Sparkle, Hope you’ll meet your goal!’ Anita McCormick of Hopwood.

“Sparkle, We are sorry we are so late doing this. This is part of our Christmas club checks. My sister Jewel Breanne and my cousin Hunter Carr and I put in some extra money for Hunter’s new baby sister Caitlin Rose Carr. She didn’t save any money yet. We hope you get enough money collected for everyone who needs it. God bless everyone with a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you.’ Jewell Breanne and Jasmine Brook Packron-Machesky and Hunter and Caitlin Ross Carr.

“Keep up the good work Sparkle. We love you. May God bless everyone this Christmas.’ Calvin United Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid, Sunday School Children and our Session of Brownsville.

“Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the campaign. The Salvation Army will use it to help a lot of people. We’re grateful for your generosity,’ said Sparkle.

“We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,’ Sparkle added, “And we’ll see you next year.’
