Nellie McMinn Block
Lancaster, Ohio Nellie M. (McMinn) Block, 90, of Lancaster, Ohio, and formerly of Nemacolin and Carmichaels, Pa., died at 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio.
She was born August 25, 1913 in Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., a daughter of Walter B. “Pete” and Margaret “Maggie” (Barnhart) McMinn.
Mrs. Block was a member of the former Glades Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels and currently a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church.
She worked at the cafeteria at the former Nemacolin Elementary School for a number of years and was a former member of Carmichaels Senior Center.
Mrs. Block was a lifelong resident of Carmichaels and Nemacolin and moved to Ohio in 1999.
In January of 1941 she married Frank Block. He died in June of 1966.
Also deceased are a brother, Paul B. McMinn, a sister, Willa McMinn Rizer, and parents.
Surviving are two sons: Gene McMinn and his wife Millie of Mentor, Ohio, and Bruce Block and his wife Mita of Lancaster, Ohio; three daughters: Frances Kovach and her husband Jack of New Concord, Ohio, Jackie Telin and her husband Gene of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Brenda Barker and her husband Tom of Albany, Georgia; nine grandchildren: Kim Pizzoferrato, Pam Cognati, Tina McMinn, Tom Kovach, John Kovach, Tim Fraser, Kelly Barker, Kevin Barker and Zaneta Block; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 28, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating.
Interment will follow in Glades Cemetery, Carmichaels.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320-0363.
