Anna Koop Herbertson
Anna K. “Betty” Koop Herbertson, 86, of Brownsville, Pa., died Saturday, December 27, 2003.
She was born in California, Pa., daughter of Edward J. Koop and Kitty McIntire Koop.
“Betty” was a longtime member of South Brownsville United Methodist Church.
She graduated from California State College (now California University of Pennsylvania) and did graduate work at Pennsylvania State University. She taught elementary school in Centerville and Crafton following college.
“Betty” was an advocate of reading and was active with the public library system throughout her life. She served as a member and secretary of the Brownsville Public Library Board of Trustees for many years. She also helped organize and served as the President of the Fayette County Library System. “Betty” is fondly remembered by many who attended the Story Hours she conducted for children for more than 30 years.
Her husband, James L. Herbertson, their daughter, Kathleen H. Sarkett, her sister, Lenore Bane, three brothers, Edward Koop Jr., William Koop and Willard Gleason, and parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Ronald Sarkett of Belle Vernon, Pa.; two grandchildren: Greg Sarkett of Canonsburg, Pa., and Jennifer Seabright of Scottsdale, Arizona; and one great-grandson, Ryan Sarkett.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. where a Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 29, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
