West Brownsville receives donated fire truck
WEST BROWNSVILLE – The West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Department, which recently had its funding cut by borough council, got a boost from a neighboring fire company. The Denbo-Vesta 6 Volunteer Fire Department gave the department a 1976 fire truck to help provide fire protection for the community.
“West Brownsville needed another truck, so we decided to help them out,” said Denbo’s president Jody Impiccini. “We always work hand in hand, so this was just one brother fire department helping another.”
Impiccini added that his fire department replaced the donated truck with another fire truck.
West Brownsville Fire Chief Todd King said that although they were able to purchase a new truck, they needed another one to back them up, and the donation saved the department a great deal of money.
“We needed a truck to back up the new one, and this will be great for that,” said King. “Since we are struggling right now, we really appreciate the help. We always work well together. We help them and they help us.”
Members of both departments said they hoped the unveiling of the donated truck would be an opportunity to show the public something positive about the fire company.
“We are all volunteers, and others in the community who still receive funding are paid,” said King. “We all work other jobs, but we’re still up at three or four in the morning when people need help.
“That is why we need a lot of help, so that we will be able to continue assisting the community. We’re very grateful for Denbo’s donation.”
