R. C. Mullen
R. C. “Moon” Mullen, 78, of Lincoln, Neb., died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in Lincoln, Neb. He was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Connellsville, Pa., to Patrick W. and Mary (Fintserwalder) Mullen.
He as Executive Vice President for Lifeshares Services Company.
He was a member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, and was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 18, 1943 to August, 1946, where he earned the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska Football team, Class of 1951. Moon was a member of Nebraska football team from 1947 to 1951, co-captain in 1950, captain in 1951, lettered in 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1951. He was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1995. He was an Alumni Association member, N Club past president, Touchdown Club member, Sigma Chi member, and Chapter member of French Riveria.
He was a member of VFW Post 131, Elks and American Legion Post No. 3.
Moon was vice president of the Board of Directors of Lifeshares Service Company, and Lincoln Life & Casualty,, Pioneer Insurance Company. He was also a member of Nebraska Insurance Institute and Ancient Order of Hibernians of America.
Surviving are a son, Bob Mullen of Burbank, Calif.; daughters and son-in-law, Terri Bernt, Karen Mullen and Kathy and Timothy Brandon, all of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Jessica Bernt, Michaela Bernt and Danielle Frances, Brandon, all of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers and sister-in-law, Fred and Marie Mullen of Littleton, Colo., and Henry Mullen of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Mary Jo Mullen of Newport Beach, Calif.; special friends and family, Jackie Leonard, Dawne, Steve, Cathie and Kim, Gregory Bernt, Tom Kuchta and Holly Wood, all of Lincoln, Neb.; and nieces and nephews.
Moon was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Mary; brothers, Ed Basil and Artie; sister, Kay Lunnen; and wife, Peggy.
Friends will be received from Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 from 5 p.m., until noon on Friday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at 7 p.m., in Cathedral of the Risen Christ, with Fr. Robert Tucker officiating. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd, with Msgr. James Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
