Frank J. Varto
Frank J. Varto, 83, of Continental Two, Fayette County, Pa., died Friday, January 31, 2003 at his residence. He was born January 10, 1920 in Uniontown, Pa., son of Rochus Varto and Mary (Gegbelc) Varto.
Frank served in the United States Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge where he obtained a Field Commission. He was promoted to First Lieutenant prior to his discharge. For his service he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He retired from working as an Auto Mechanic for National Ford.
Frank was a lifetime member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown.
He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 47, Uniontown, and Continental Two Rod and Gun Club.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Faris Varto in 1987, five brothers, two sisters, and parents.
He is survived by his children: Stephen Varto and his wife, Peggy, of Fairchance, Pa., Frank Varto Jr. and Peggy Layhue of Uniontown, Pa., Cheryl Wonkovich and husband, Jack, of Lakewood, Ohio, Mary Skelton and Dan Kelley of Republic, Pa., Cindy Kushner of Uniontown, Pa., and Cathy Clawson and Hoby Springer of Uniontown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Michael Varto of Leonard, Michigan; one sister, Mary Radolec of Uniontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, February 4 (time will be announced).
Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Honors will be accorded by Uniontown V. F. W. Post 47.
