Brownsville Township officials to sign cable agreement

By J.S. Augustine For The 2 min read

BROWSVILLE TWP. – The township supervisors say ongoing contract negotiations with Charter Communications have been successful, and they plan to sign an extension of the township’s contract with the cable television provider. “What we wanted from Charter was the same deal as Brownsville Borough, the minimum contract available, with a $3,000 dollar community grant available to the borough,” said Homer Yeardie, chairman of the supervisors. “But Charter wanted us to go with a 15-year contract. I wasn’t comfortable with that.”

Yeardie said upon further negotiations, he was able to convince Charter to go with the minimum six-year contract, but he was able to negotiate only a $1,000 dollar community grant.

“We need to install a computer in the township offices for our business purposes,” said Yeardie. “The grant money we receive will help with the cost of purchasing the computer.”

The supervisors agreed to accept the new cable contract contingent upon the review of the township solicitor.

Elsewhere, township officials said repairs to the lower half of Century Road are on hold until at least spring because of snow and muddy conditions. The Lynn Road Bridge project is still a few years away, officials said. The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is doing environmental impact studies on the site.

Also, the supervisors are concerned about the amount of snow and the high use of anti-skid materials and salt.

“It’s hitting our budget hard,” said Yeardie. “We just ordered more anti-skid. I hope the weather warms up. There’s enough anti-skid on the road as it is.”

In another matter, the supervisors are considering passing an ordinance in the community for storm-water management. The ordinance would allow the township to comply with national guidelines and will ensure that discharge and run-off from homes are kept separate from storm-sewer systems.
