Centerville council studies offering district justice office space

By Jenny Susa 2 min read

CENTERVILLE – District Justice William Pelkey temporarily moved to a new office at the California Borough Building after water soaked through the ceiling of his Wood Street office. The leak has shorted out the telephone system and the electricity has been shut off. Rather then wait for repairs, Pelkey is considering relocating his office.

Centerville council met Tuesday to discuss offering their facility to him.

Although Pelkey was not able to attend the meeting, Councilman Lou Gajewski said he hoped the magistrate would relocate to their municipal building.

Council President Edward Sukal said they would have to discuss the terms of a rental agreement with Pelkey.

“I don’t think I would be in favor of a short-term lease,” Sukal said.

He added that Pelkey had said he would need the entire building to use his offices.

Since Gajewski had discussed the relocation with Pelkey before, council agreed that he could get the information on the new district justice office.

Bob and Diane Rudy also approach the board to ask about their property on Route 40.

Bob Rudy said his property was zoned commercial at one time and then changed to residential. He asked to have the property rezoned to commercial so that he could have a business there.

Councilwoman Susie Zebley said she believed the property would have been commercial because of its location but Rudy said it was not. Councilwoman MaryAnn Bailey said she did not think any residents should object to the rezoning.

“A business on that location would not bother anyone living in town,” said Bailey.

Solicitor Dennis Makel said they may have a quick hearing to allow the family to have the property zoned commercial.
