Adult Learning Center creates computer lab
With the assistance of $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation, the Adult Learning Center (ALC) in Uniontown has announced the creation of a computer lab. Located at 23 Connellsville St., the center has been providing education to adults for over 30 years.
Operated by Intermediate Unit 1, the center offers students flexible scheduling with day and evening classes available to students who wish to prepare for the GED or to improve basic skills.
Fran Lemansky, ALC’s head teacher, said the lab will aid in the the center’s mission of providing adult students with quality education by offering additional resources through the use of the Internet and computer software.
“By having computers and the Internet conveniently within the facility, students will not only have access to additional educational resources, but will also have the opportunity to become more comfortable using computers,” said Lemansky.
“Many students continue their education or seek employment after completing their program at the Adult Learning Center. By familiarizing them with computers now, they will be more prepared for post-secondary education and more marketable in the job market. We really want to thank the Verizon Foundation for making this grant possible so that we can better serve the adults in our area.”
“On behalf of Verizon Foundation, we are proud to partner with the Adult Learning Center in its mission to improve the quality of education for its students through the use of technology,” said Joanne Rae, director-external affairs, Verizon Pa.
“Given the challenges of an ever-changing environment, the ALC programs are aligned with our focus on creating a skilled workforce, and we are delighted to open the doors to the lab for the community,’ she added.
