Gladys H. E. Wandel
Gladys Henrietta Elsie Raupach Wandel, 89, of Connellsville, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant.
She was born April 2, 1913, in Dunbar, Pa., the daughter of the late Gustave E. and Catherine Sauers Raupach. Mrs. Wandel was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Connellsville, where she was confirmed in 1927. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 247, a member of the International Order of Jobes Daughters, where she was a Past Bethel Guardian of Connellsville Bethel No. 2. She was also a former member of the Lioness Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Darlene M. Shaw and her husband, Joseph, Kathryn A. Ansell and her husband, James and Joy Lee Sampey and her husband, Lee, all of Connellsville; 12 grandchildren, C. Kim Shaw Petko and her husband, Joseph of Connellsville, Joseph Harold Shaw and his wife, Debbie of Hagerstown, Md., Gretchen Shaw Burgin and her husband, Jeff of Leesburg, Va., Lori Shaw Henry and her husband, Edward of Normalville, Kimberley Ansell Kerns and her husband, Ronald J. Jr., of Connellsville, Rhonda Ansell Pilarcik and her husband, Randy of Evans City, Pa., Ronald Ansell of Connellsville, Kellie Ansell Sheets and her husband, Robert of Connellsville, Jayme Strawn Sturdevant and her husband, Doug of Cicero, Ind., Tammy Lee Strawn of Indianapolis, Ind., Beth Sampey Martin and her husband, Lee of Connellsville, and Brad Lee Sampey of New York, N.Y.; 13 great-grandchildren, Jill Petko DeWitt and her husband, Roy Jr., of Connellsville, Melissa Booher of Leesburg, VA., Jeffrey Stewart of Normalville, Stephen Sturdevant of Cicero, Ind., Cody Pilarcik of Evans City, Adam Burgin of Leesburg, Va., Shelby Kerns of Connellsville, Rachael Sturdevant of Cicero, Ind., Zachary Pilarcik of Evans City, Todd Sherbondy of Connellsville, Jessica Sheets of Connellsville, Joshua Kerns of Connellsville, and Edward Henry Jr., of Normalville; one great great-grandchild, Chandler DeWitt of Connellsville; one brother, Charles Raupach and his wife, Lucretia of Schumberg, Ill.; and several nieces , nephews and cousins, who were near and dear to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. “Barney” Wandel in 1985; her daughter, Dolores Strawn; her son-in-law, James Strawn; her stepmother, Dora Mankoff Wandel Raupach; one sister, Rose Strawderman; three brothers, Henry, George and Gustave Raupach; three stepbrothers, Walter, Bernard and Paul Wandel; and a stepsister, Bertha Franks.
Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green St., Connellsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday from 9 until 11:00 a.m., where a prayer service will be held, followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m., in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Philip Ranstad officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. The Order of Eastern Star No. 247 will conduct a memorial service on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., in the funeral home. www.brooksfuneralhomes.com
