Sewerage project makes progress
BULLSKIN TWP.- Despite frigid temperatures and an encounter with rock, three contractors responsible for installing a sewerage system to parts of Bullskin and Connellsville townships are expected to finish the project late next month. The $5.52 million project affects 576 households from which the Bullskin Township/Connellsville Township Joint Sewerage Authority has so far collected $422,470 in tap-in fees.
Dick Widmer, vice president of Widmer Engineering, said Wednesday that he expects the pump stations to be up and running by late March or early April.
“Once the pump stations are on line, we won’t wait for the other work to be completed,” Widmer said.
According to Widmer, the work involves restoration such as paving and planting grass along with a “punch list” of items suggested by officials from the Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Protection Agency which provides the final inspection of the project.
Last month, Widmer said the third of three pump stations would be placed on hold because the contractor, D.T. Construction Inc. of Dunbar, had encountered rock.
Otherwise, Widmer said the pump stations located at DeMuth and Moyer roads in Bullskin Township are completed.
As part of the initial project, the authority was able to apply $115,000 from several change orders to extend the sewer lines to about 40 customers in Connellsville Township to Johnson Lane and part of Connellsville Street.
To date, Widmer said the engineering firm has completed most of the field work involved in the extension, including all aerial photography and surveys.
Widmer said the firm is still in the process of the design phase, which he expects to be completed next month.
After that, Widmer said it would just be a matter of installing the sewerage line and obtaining property easements as in the initial project.
