Youths escape injury in North Union mobile-home blaze
Two juveniles escaped injury Thursday when an early morning fire destroyed their home in the Holiday Mobile Home Park in North Union Township. West Leisenring fire chief Steve Vojacek said he and a state police fire marshal spent the better part of the morning at the scene, trying to determine the cause of the fire at 626 Washington Ave.
North Union Township and Hopwood fire companies assisted West Leisenring, along with Uniontown EMS. Smock Fire Company was on standby.
West Leisenring fire captain Gregg Wallace said the trailer was engulfed in flames when his fire company arrived at the scene.
“We got there shortly after we got the call at about 2:05 a.m.,” said Wallace. “The trailer was really burning, and it took some time to get it under control.”
Wallace said no other structures were threatened by the blaze.
He also said that the two juveniles were lucky to have escaped.
“I didn’t know that there were kids in the trailer, because I was on the fire truck,” said Wallace. “I do know that it was a very cold night to be fighting a fire.”
Wallace and Vojacek said no firefighters were hurt while battling the blaze.
No damage estimate was available.
