Accident claims teen
An 18-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Saturday.
An avid racer, Mark Alan Stephens, 18, of New Freeport was participating in the motocross race at the Greene County Fair Grounds, sponsored by the Mason-Dixon Riders Association, when a motorcycle hit him.
According to state police, Stephens was racing in the 125 cc “B” class event when a rider in front of him fell. Police said Stephens tried to avoid hitting the rider but also fell. The rider behind Stephens was airborne and hit Stephens with his motorcycle, said police.
Police said Stephens was transported to Greene County Hospital where Greene County Coroner Gregory Rohanna pronounced him dead at 5:10 p.m. Rohanna said Stephens died from blunt force trauma from the accident.
A news release from Rohanna’s office said that Stephens was crushed in the pileup during the race.
The investigation is ongoing; however, state police are considering it an accidental death.

Letha Marie Sutton, 36, of Smithfield told state police that someone stole personal property from her car Thursday on Rear Jarrett Drive.

State police said a vehicle owned by Lori Lynn Sheplar of Champion and reported stolen from the Donegal area was recovered Wednesday near the Indian Creek reservoir.

Woman arrested
State police arrested Catherine Ann Chapman, 45, of 719 Skylark Drive, Connellsville, was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest Friday for allegedly screaming obscenities while standing in the middle of the roadway, despite being told six times to stop.

State police said charges are pending against two men who allegedly punched Thomas Jodon of Acme during an argument Monday in Bear Rocks.

City police said Terry Lee Rhodes, 36, of Uniontown was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief/vandalism and was placed in the Fayette County Prison on a $25,000 bond in connection with the break-in of Joesph S. Evans’ garage at 147 Lincoln St. around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Joel Hittle of 119 Coolspring St. told city police that the driver and passenger side windows of a 1987 Ford dump truck owned by Vervos Construction Company were broken sometime Friday night.
In a separate incident, Hittle told city police a window was broken in a housing unit under construction sometime Friday night.

City police said someone kicked in the front door of a bar owned by Eugene Barchetti of 206 E. Main St., broke two machines and took an undetermined amount of money sometime Friday night.

David Jamison, 34, was arrested for violating a protection from abuse order after he allegedly grabbed Nina Jamison, 26, by the neck and shoved her Jan. 25, police said. Neither the Jamisons’ address nor the location of the incident was provided.

A vehicle driven by Eric Scott Currey of Waynesburg traveled off Route 19, just north of Brick School Road, and struck a mailbox and trees Jan. 26, state police said. He was not injured.

Monthly report
State police in Waynesburg reported 132 offenses in January, according to the monthly report from the station. Police said 131 of the offenses were founded, 100 were cleared, and 95 criminal arrests were made. Police listed three reports of stolen property, including motor vehicles, and the property was valued at $38,942. Patrol activity included 96 accidents, seven hit-and-runs, three fatalities, 19 injuries, 282 citations issued, 172 warnings issued, 18 drunken-driving arrests, six drunken-driving accidents, 43 motorist assists, 246 other incidents and a total of 517 incidents.

Man arrested
George Cornish, 43, of Askren Street, Uniontown, was arrested on simple assault charges for allegedly throwing Angela Petry, same address, to the ground eight times by her head and neck, and kicking her in the back while she was down, state police said. He was arraigned and committed to the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $5,000 straight bail.

Emma West, 49, of Star Junction told state police that someone slashed the top of her 1993 Chrysler LeBaron convertible while it was parked along South Liberty between 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Man charged with DUI
According to state police, Edwin Calhoun, 42, of Uniontown was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and various traffic violations after he crashed his van into a stone wall along Route 40. Police said Calhoun was not injured.

Gas stolen
Employees of the 55 Morgantown St. A Plus Mini Market told city police a white man driving a gray Toyota pickup truck entered the store, paid for various items but did not pay for gas at 4:30 a.m. Friday. Police said the owner of truck was contacted and promised to reimburse the store for the gas. Charges are pending the reimbursement, police said.

State police said Sidney Bush, 49, of Fairchance sustained minor injuries when the vehicle she was driving hit a utility pole on Route 857 at 8:12 a.m. Jan. 10.

Steven Huteell, 28, of Dunbar told state police that a 24-year-old Connellsville man smacked him in the mouth and damaged a window in his 109 E. Broadway St. residence at 10:40 a.m. Sunday.

Jackie Goodwin, 37, of Fairchance told state police that someone damaged a tile block wall on her South Morgantown Road property between 5 and 6 a.m. Sunday.

State police said they found an open container of alcohol in a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Uniontown man at the intersection of Edison Street and Gallatin Avenue at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
