Ministerial association plays prayer service

By Frances Borsodi Zajac 2 min read

The Rev. David Nazimek stated it simply, “We see it as a need in light of the world situation.’ With that belief, the Fairchance-Smithfield Ministerial Association will host an ecumenical prayer service on behalf of the nation’s servicemen and servicewomen as well as government leaders who are now facing difficult decisions.

The service will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, located on Morgantown Street (Route 857) in Fairchance.

Rev. Nazimek, pastor of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, said the service would be composed of Scripture readings, prayers (including “The Lord’s Prayer’), an exchange of peace and hymns, including “How Great Thou Art,’ “What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ and “Holy, Holy, Holy.’

The Rev. Jay Hurley, pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Smithfield and president of the ministerial association, will be the speaker.

“This prayer service is for those men and women who are standing in harm’s way. We feel it is good to pray for them, especially in these critical times when war and the threat of terrorism is so great,’ Rev. Hurley said.

Noting the area is very patriotic, Rev. Hurley is hoping for a good turnout.

“I think we’ll have a good response,’ he said. “We would like to see as many people there as possible.’

Both Rev. Nazimek and Rev. Hurley believe strongly in the power of prayer.

Rev. Nazimek noted, “We hope to have some type of positive influence.’
