Supervisors vote to purchase radios for fire department
WASHINGTON TWP. – Because the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department has recently been assisting the township’s emergency medical service, the board of supervisors discussed providing the fire department with some equipment they need for the extra responsibility. “It was brought to my attention that because the fire department is volunteering their time to assist the ambulance they are going on a lot of calls in parts of the township where the communication is very bad,” said supervisor Joann Lutkanich. “They sent us a letter requesting a high band mobile radio to help them take care of the additional calls they are covering. I think we should see what equipment is needed and find out what the cost factor will be so we can see if we can help them out.”
Chairman Melvin Weiss said he believed it would be best to get at least two bids and find out which would be best for the fire department. Supervisor John Yetsconish pointed out that it was important for the fire department to be supplied with the radio as soon as possible for emergency purposes. The board agreed not to wait until their next meeting to purchase the radio, and said they would do what they could to help right away.
“I want to thank the fire department for assisting the ambulance on 24 calls this past month,” said Lutkanich. “They are working very well together.”
Weiss also publicly thanked Yetsconish, who is road master for the township, as well as the rest of the crew.
“I would like to say thanks to the road crew for going out there in the snow and ice to keep our roads safer,” said Weiss. “The are available to work on the roads 24 hours a day and they have been doing an excellent job.”
