Sarah Pearl Ganoe
Sarah Pearl Ganoe, 100, a longtime former resident of Point Marion, Pa., and one of the first residents of Unity Manor in Morgantown, W.Va., when it opened over 20 years ago, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.
Born at Cheat Haven, Pa., on April 6, 1902, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Sarah Anna Morton Ganoe.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Point Marion, where she had served as deaconess and Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was retired from Houze Glass Corporation, in Point Marion, where she worked for 42 years as a glasscutter. Pearl was a skilled seamstress, and volunteered at Unity Manor for several charities until well into her 90’s. She was honored on her 100th birthday by a special party and city proclamation in Morgantown.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Eva Simpson Bowman; and three brothers, Charles, Harry and Raymond Ganoe.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Grace Ganoe and her daughter, Doris, both of McComb, Ill.; and three nephews, Ralph Ganoe of Point Marion, who was her caregiver for the past several years, William Ganoe, also of Point Marion, and William Ganoe of Tucson, Ariz.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, Pa., today from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, in the First Baptist Church, Point Marion, from noon until 1 p.m. the hour of service, with Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
