William “Bill” Russell Smalley Sr.
William “Bill” Russell Smalley Sr., age 74, of Edgewood, Pa., passed away Thursday, February 13, 2003. He was born August 25, 1928 in Searights, Fayette County, Pa., son of Russell Smalley and Evelyn Freed Smalley.
“Bill” spent his working career as a Captain and then Assistant Fire Chief for the Borough of Edgewood Fire Department.
He was a Veteran of World War II and loved to spend time camping at Big Bear Lake Camplands in West Virginia.
He was a member of St. James Parish in Wilkinsburg, Pa., The Knights of Columbus, and Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.
A daughter, Judith Smalley, a sister, Dolores Smalley Franks, and parents preceded him in death.
William is survived by his wife, Agnes Olear Smalley; three sons: Robert Smalley, William Smalley Jr., and David Smalley; three grandchildren: Jason Smalley and Josh Smalley, the sons of Robert and Brenda Smalley, and Katie Smalley, the daughter of Linda and William Smalley Jr.; and one great granddaughter, Weslyn, the daughter of Jason and Rebecca Smalley.
He is also survived by one brother, Donald Smalley, and four sisters, Faye Christopher, Ruth Frost, Betty Frost and Janet Cowley.
There are also many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale, PA 15218 today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 17, at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Wilkinsburg.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
Visitation was also held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
