George “Schway” Salipek
George “Schway” Salipek, 75, of Masontown, Pa., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2003 in May Day Manor Personal Care Home. He was born December 24, 1927 in Masontown, Pa., a son of Joseph and Anna (Recorick) Salipek.
George served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was a past member of many veterans’ organizations.
He had been employed as a Butcher in his early years prior to his wartime service.
George was employed as a Welder with various local mines prior to his retirement and was a member of United Mine Workers of America District 2.
He was also a former Peace Officer for Masontown Borough.
George was very patriotic and politically oriented. He was fiercely dedicated to the cause of freedom and was a very proud American!
George was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John “Spotty” Salipek, Andrew “Salty” Salipek, Tom Salipek, Michael “Eish” Salipek, one sister, Catherine Turchin, and two nephews, Bob Salipek and Eugene Salipek.
Left to cherish his memory are five nephews: a special nephew Carl Salipek and wife, Donna, of Point Marion, Pa., Jimmy Salipek of Cleveland, Ohio, Ronald Turchin of Fairmont, West Virginia, Jerry Turchin of North Carolina, and Michael Salipek of Ohio; three nieces: Andrea Salipek of California state, Renee Bendo of Ohio, and Robin Smochinsky Salipek of Masontown R. D. 1, Pa.; two great nieces: special great niece Stacie Salipek-Bator of Republic, Pa., and Carla Ann DeMatteo of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Peggy Salipek of Masontown, Pa.; and close friends, Louis Davis and wife, Mary, of Masontown, Pa.
Private visitation will be held for the Family at the HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., on Wednesday, February 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
An evening Blessing Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Father Donald Trexler officiating.
Military Honors will follow at 9 p.m. accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle V. F. W. Post 4584 and Fort Mason American Legion Post 423.
Private interment will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa.
