John L. Mitchell Sr.
John L. Mitchell Sr., 81, of Grays Landing, Pa., died Sunday, February 23, 2003 in his home. He was born January 12, 1922 in Brownfield, Pa., son of the late Julius Mitchell and Grace Edmonson Mitchell.
He was a retired coal miner, World War II veteran, member of Curry Dyson Post VFW and the American Legion Dorie Miller Post 824 of Buffington, Pa. and a member of the former Rising Star Baptist Church of Palmer, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Anne Callock, Lula Perkins-Parnell and Edith “Kate” Madison; one brother Julius Mitchell, Jr. and one son, Julius W. Mitchell III.
Surviving is his close friend, Jeanette Thomas of Grays Landing; his former wife Vera Mitchell of Palmer; the following children, Terry Thomas of Masontown, John Jr. of Pittsburgh, Harry of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Vera Nancy James of Brooklyn, N.Y., Anne Pace of Germantown, Md., Linda Pan of Manassas, Va., Grace Sherrill of Waldorf, Md., Vicki Mitchell of Adah, Darrell of Uniontown, and Michael of Adah.
Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 E. Main St., Uniontown, Pa. on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 from 5 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pastor Reddick officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
