Rutgers’ women’s basketball coach Vivian Stringer under investigation
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) – Rutgers is investigating whether coach C. Vivian Stringer violated recruiting rules when she and the mother of a top prospect encountered each other after a recent game. The school said it is obligated as an NCAA member to examine the complaint, which was made by Seton Hall. Both schools are recruiting Essence Carson, a 5-foot-11 junior forward from Paterson Eastside.
“We’re reviewing the situation and looking into it,” Rutgers sports spokeswoman Heather Brocious said Thursday.
Stringer, a native of Fayette County and a graduate of German Twp. High School, is one the top coaches in women’s college basketball.
If Rutgers determines there was a violation, it must report it to the NCAA. Penalties could range from a letter of admonishment to being barred from contacting the prospect for a period of time, the school said.
