Rev. Wilbur H. Haines
Rev. Wilbur H. “Rudy” Haines, 79, of Fairchance, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Jimtown, Fairchance, Pa., son of the late Edward Haines and Helen Hickle Haines.
Rudy was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was an employee of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, for 31 years until his retirement.
Rudy always enjoyed helping other people, serving his Lord Jesus Christ and was the Assistant Sunday school Superintendent at the Hallam Lighthouse Mission Church at Collier, where he attended.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Catherine Tate Haines; the following children, William Haines of Balsinger, Pa., Bonnie Keefer of Richmond, Va., Bruce Haines of Fairchance, Pa., Edward Haines of Richmond, Va., Larry Haines of Pittsburgh, Pa., Eric Haines of Fairchance, Pa., Wanda Washko of Fayetteville, Ga., Betty Brempell of Suisun, Calif., Kenneth Haines of Ohio, and Lisa Haines of Fredericksburg, Va.; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, John “Jay” Haines of Smithfield, Pa., Ethel Firestone of Smithfield, Pa., Floyd Haines of Fairchance, Pa., Gene Haines of Akron, Ohio, Arnold Haines of Fairchance, Pa., Wade Haines of Connellsville, Pa., Arlene Swaney of Fairchance, Pa., and Virgie Haines of Uniontown, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2004, until 1 p.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Leonard Herod officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Georges Township, Pa.
