George Popovich
George Popovich, 81, of Smithfield, Pa., died Wednesday, January 1, 2003 in his residence. He was born April 25, 1921 in Gans, Fayette County, Pa., son of Luka Popovich and Catherine Stronko Popovich.
George was a United States Army Veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific Theatre.
He also was employed in the construction industry most of his life until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Frank, and three sisters, Dorothy, Mildred and Ann.
Surviving are his brothers, Andy Popovich and James Popovich both of Uniontown, Pa., Sam Popovich of Lake Lynn, Pa., Ed Popovich, Smithfield, Pa., Alexander Popovich, North Carolina, and Nick Popovich, Lake Lynn, Pa.; nieces and nephews; and his very dear friends and neighbors, Lester and Esther Shaffer of Lake Lynn.
The Family will receive Friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Saturday, January 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. A Blessing Service will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Joseph Sredzinski officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Geneva, Pa.
