Helen B. HulveyScheggia, R.N.
Helen B. Hulvey Scheggia, R.N., 77, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Sunday, December 29, 2002 in Medina General Hospital, Medina, Ohio. She was born in Fairchance, Pa., on May 18, 1925 daughter of John Hulvey and Elizabeth Lukatch Hulvey.
Mrs. Scheggia was a lifelong resident of Fayette County, Pa., and was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Uniontown.
In 1946 Helen received a diploma from the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing and in 1951 received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University.
Helen went on to teach Medical-Surgical Nursing at the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing and retired after 38 years in 1990.
A dedicated community volunteer, Helen taught CPR to the fire fighters and emergency personnel and worked with the Fayette Chapters of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
With a sincere love of nursing, Helen established an endowed scholarship for the Fayette Community called the Helen Hulvey Scheggia Nursing Scholarship Fund.
Her husband, Sadio F. Scheggia, died May 18, 1973, Also deceased are six brothers, John, Stephen, Andrew, Paul, Henry and George Hulvey, a sister, Anna Conifer, and her parents.
She is survived by three stepchildren: Fredericka Meine and her husband, Fred, of Columbia, Georgia, Patsy Lynn Stecker and her husband, Jack, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Louis Scheggia and his wife, Carolyn, of Chalk Hill, Pa.; seven step grandchildren; several great-step grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anne Hulvey of Medina, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received in the DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, Uniontown, Pa., today only from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Family and friends are requested to gather for Funeral Services on Saturday, January 4, 2003, at 10 a.m., in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 71 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, with the Rev. Paul N. Frank officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The Helen Hulvey Scheggia Nursing Scholarship Fund in care of the Uniontown Hospital.
