Helen Zajac Sowinski
Helen M. (Zajac) Sowinski, 90, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Friday, January 3, 2003 in Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on July 5, 1912 in Oliver, Uniontown, Pa., a daughter of Walter Zajac and Aniela (Kogut) Chmiela Zajac.
Helen was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America Court 505, Catholic Mothers Club of Oliver, Catholic War Veterans Post 1669 Auxiliary, St. Hedwig’s Lodge No. 474, The Polish National Alliance, and Happy Helens Club.
Helen was past Vice President and Financial Secretary of St. Joseph’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
Her husband, Peter S. Sowinski, a grandson, Nicholas Sowinski, brothers, Frank, Walter, Theodore and Alex Zajac, a sister, Victoria Novotny, and parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons: Peter F. Sowinski and wife, Jo Ann, of Newnan, Georgia, and Thomas E. Sowinski and wife, Pat, of Prosperity, South Carolina; six grandchildren: Mary Jane Sullivan, Gery Sowinski, Amy Williamson, Shelley Diedrich, Stephanie Marie Sowinski, and Beth Anne Revell; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Dutkievich of Detroit, Michigan, and Clara Petish of Dearborn, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 8, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christina Burial follows at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, with Father Richard A. Portasik, O.F.M., as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
St. Joseph’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Happy Helens Club, Catholic Mothers of Oliver, Catholic Daughters of America Court 505, and Catholic War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary will recite the Rosary in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Parish Family Vigil Service by The Ministry of Consolation will be conducted Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
