Building collapses
One man was hospitalized Monday when the shell of the building he was working on collapsed.
The accident occurred at a construction site on Central Road in East Huntingdon Township, near the Sony Plant, and sent the man to a Greensburg area hospital.
According to East Huntingdon Township Fire Chief Jeff Keefer, a shell of a building, under construction, collapsed at about 4 p.m. Monday when the unidentified worker was working on top of the roof of the shell.
Keffer said when the building collapsed the man fell and the structural beams fell on top of him. A second man, who was also working on the building, wasn’t hurt, according to Keefer.
Keefer said the first man was transported to Westmoreland Regional Hospital in Greensburg. He also said that the man would have been air lifted to Pittsburgh, but the weather was too bad for the helicopter to take off.

Rape investigation
State police in Uniontown said they are investigating an alleged rape involving a 9-year-old female victim and a known suspect that reportedly occurred from Jan. 1, 2001, to Jan. 1, 2003, in the Smithfield area.

Man arrested
David Lee Barnes, 22, of 68 Pershing Court was charged with firearms not to be carried without a license and receiving stolen property after being patted down when police stopped him because he fit the description of a man seen fleeing from a stolen car. According to police, Barnes ended up not being the stolen car suspect.

Burglary reported
Derek Honsaker of 208 S. Mount Vernon Ave. told city police someone entered his residence through an unlocked door and stole a Sharp VCR, Sony Play Station and $150 on Saturday after 1:30 p.m.

Man arrested
William Menyo of Long Branch was arrested on charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and harassment after he allegedly struck Sandra Menyo in the face and pointed a loaded .22-caliber rifle at Glenda Menyo and threatened to kill her at 11:15 p.m. Friday at 194 Mount Tabor Road, state police in Belle Vernon said. The suspect also allegedly threatened to kill John Lorenzu of Belle Vernon and Daniel Byrne of Allenport with the rifle, police said. He was committed to the Washington County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.

Vehicle accident
James Ray Lincoln of Uniontown and Michael Novotny II of Brier Hill were involved in an accident at the intersection of Route 21 and Puritan Road at 10:11 p.m. Friday, state police said. Brooke Crutchman of McClellandtown, a passenger in Novotny’s vehicle, was injured. A passenger in Lincoln’s vehicle was not hurt. All were wearing seatbelts.

Driver cited
Citations for careless driving and vehicle turning left were filed against Derek W. Hogan of South Connellsville following a 2:27 p.m. Saturday accident on Route 31 at County Line Road, state police said.
Police said Hogan was talking on a cell phone when he tried to turn left on to County Line Road, but turned in front of Frank Edward Farkosh of Scottdale, who was traveling east on Route 31. Police said after Hogan struck Farkosh, Farkosh hit Linda L. Rankin of Acme, who was stopped at a stop sign. Rankin had two passengers in her vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Burglary investigated
State police are investigating the theft of a 13-inch TV/VCR from the garage of William Nicholson of 801 Marietta St. on Friday night or Saturday morning.

Someone broke a basement door window at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic at the intersection of Boyd Avenue and Grissom Street Extension between Dec. 30 and Saturday, state police said.

A harassment citation was filed against Daniel Overly, 38, of Mount Pleasant for allegedly pushing and slapping Dawn Pravlik, 26, of Mount Pleasant at 12:10 a.m. Sunday along Federal Street, state police said.

State police are investigating a fight in which Dominic Galluzzo and Guy Galluzzo were struck in the face with possible contact in a bar parking lot at 1:45 a.m. Sunday.

Connie Dressel of 32 Thomas St. told city police she heard a loud “bang” at 11:18 p.m. Sunday, looked outside and saw smoke coming from her car. Police said someone threw an unknown type of fireworks into her unlocked car and the explosion shattered the driver’s window.

Two unknown males and an unknown female stole approximately $40 in jewelry from the Exxon station at intersection of routes 40 and 21 at 8:38 p.m. Sunday, city police said.

William E. Vance of 100 E. Berkeley St. told city police Sunday morning that his 3.5-horsepower Toro snow blower was stolen from his back porch sometime overnight.

An employee at Tractor Supply Co. told city police that a man and a woman stole a pair of Wrangler jeans at 9:53 a.m. Sunday. The man was described as white, in his mid 30s, 6-feet-2-inches tall, with blonde hair and blue eyes and the woman was described as white, 30-35 years old, 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Wilbur Cummings of 33 Carson St. reported Sunday at 11:15 p.m. that his wallet containing $110 and food stamps was stolen from his kitchen table.

Car chased
City police said they saw a car at 12:01 a.m. Monday on West Main Street that matched the description of one that was reported stolen Saturday and chased it. The pursuit led through several West End streets before the driver shut off the headlights and pulled behind a pizza shop on North Mount Vernon Avenue. The driver then fled, leaving his girlfriend and a 3-year-old girl in the car. The driver then came to the police station at 5:15 a.m. and told officers he fled because his inspection sticker was expired. No charges were filed.

Break-in discovered
City police said they saw smoke coming from the chimney of a vacant and condemned house at 31 Nutt Ave. and the front door was partially open at 1:36 a.m. Monday. Then they say a man ran passed the door. Officers surrounded the building, searched it and found a homeless man in the basement. He told police he broke in and started a fire for warmth.

Someone cut two tires on a car owned by Kimberly Swaney of 81 S. Pennsylvania Ave. on Friday night or Saturday morning, city police said.

A harassment citation was filed against Aaron Lee Huey, 25, of 36 Wilmington Ave. for allegedly slapping and pulling the hair of Patricia Smith, same address, at 4:34 p.m. Sunday at their residence, city police said.
