Michael A. Houck Jr.
Michael Andrew (Mike) Houck Jr., 77, of Uniontown, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Latrobe, Pa., a son of the late Michael Andrew Houck Sr., and Marie Antoinette Pearson Houck.
Mr. Houck was a graduate of Redstone High School, attended Waynesburg College, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a maintenance foreman for the Maple Creek Mine of U.S. Steel, a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, VFW Post No. 47, Uniontown, the Hi-To Sportsmen’s Club, was a former treasurer of UMWA Local No. 1252 Maple Creek Mine, and was an accomplished carpenter. He helped found and was associated with the Houck Dance Studio.
Surviving are his loving wife, Virginia A. Beal Houck; four children, Michael Andrew (Mickey) Houck III and his wife, Connie of Uniontown, Dorothy Marie Houck Constable and her husband, Fred of Penn Craft, Pa., and Michele Houck Wilcosky and Melody Houck Laight and her husband, Brian, all of Uniontown; six grandchildren, Trisha and Michael Houck, Demarie Constable, Brittany Wilcosky and Ariel and Bradlee Laight; a brother, William Houck and his wife, Dorothy of Uniontown; and a sister, Betty Yourich of Monarch, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., in St. Therese R.C. Church, Mill Street, Uniontown, with the Rev. Fr. Kenneth G. Zaccagnini V.F., as celebrant. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by VFW Post 47.
