Activities scheduled The following is a look at upcoming events and activities scheduled throughout Greene County:
– Resume writing, 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waynesburg Career Link.
– Job skill assessment, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Waynesburg Career Link. For details, call 724-852-2900, ext. 235.
– Faith in Action, 3 p.m. Jan. 23 at Community Action Southwest conference room, 58 E. High St., Waynesburg. Faith in Action is a program designed to assist senior citizens by offering volunteer services through the shared ministry of Greene County’s faith communities.
– Diabetes workshop, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Cornerstone Care in Greensboro. The workshop will detail the symptoms and testing for diabetes, the types of diabetes and suggestions to reduce risk of this disease. To find out more, call the Penn State Cooperative Extension office at 724-627-3745.
– Book sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Flenniken Public Library, Carmichaels.
Meetings planned
The Greene County Bureau of Registration and Elections will hold informational meetings to assist potential candidates in running for office in the May 20 municipal primary.
Packets prepared for each office will include detailed instructions and information needed to circulate and file nomination petitions.
Meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, and Thursday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ meeting room, first floor, County Office Building, 93 E. High St., Waynesburg.
To ensure the availability of a packet pertaining to the office of interest, prospective candidates should call the election office at 724-852-5230 to register for one of the meetings.
Those who cannot attend one of the evening meetings should call the office. If enough interest is generated, a daytime meeting will be scheduled.
College welcomes Sebak
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg College will open its spring Guest Lecture Series on Tuesday with a talk by Rick Sebak, producer, writer and narrator of public television and Pittsburgh documentaries.
The lecture, “Sandwiches Around Here,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Waynesburg College Performing Arts Center. Sebak will discuss his national shows and how topics and places are chosen. The event is free and open to the public.
“We are very pleased to host Rick Sebak,” said Richard Krause, assistant professor and chairman of the college’s communication department.
“He has a remarkable gift to chronicle the rich history of our region. Mr. Sebak will visit our campus for the third time, and on each previous occasion, he has been well received. Our students are very excited to see him return.”
Sebak has produced and narrated both local and national television documentaries for WQED-13 Pittsburgh since 1987.
His most recent production was “Happy Holidays in Pittsburgh.” Sebak has six national shows with PBS.
