Robert Huston Shannon, Sr.
Robert Huston Shannon, Sr., 81, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, January 13, 2003 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Mr. Shannon was born March 16, 1921, in Uniontown, Pa., son of the late William J. Shannon and Elizabeth Johnson Huston Ramsay.
Mr. Shannon was a member of the Episcopal faith. He was retired. He was a life member of VFW Post 8543, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a member of American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, Pa.
Mr. Shannon was a graduate of Sewanee Military School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a 1st. Lieutenant with the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He is survived by three daughters, Donna Elizabeth McNeil of Winchester, Patricia Jean Wotring of Stephenson and Helen Joyce Bolyard of Tunnelton, West Virginia; a son Robert Huston Shannon, Jr, of Mesquite, Nevada; ten grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa. with the Rev. Tom Finney officiating. Military honors will be afforded by VFW Post 8543 of Uniontown, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Avenue, Suite B., Winchester, Virginia 22601.
