AG board considers ‘floating’ secretary position
The Albert Gallatin Area School Board is considering the addition of a new “floating secretary” position for the district, to help combat secretary shortages that have occurred throughout the school year, Superintendent Walter Vicinelly said. The school board said Wednesday that it will consider the creation of the position after any required discussions with the Service Employees International Union.
“Once it is created and posted and we follow all the procedures we need to, I will be able to assign a secretary,” said Vicinelly. “If a secretary is off and I don’t have a substitute… I would be able to assign that secretary to that position.”
Vicinelly said the district has experienced shortages and problems finding substitutes for secretaries, and this move will allow Vicinelly the leeway to fill vacant positions.
“We were kind of short staffed and for a more efficient operation of the district, these are some thins that I think I need,” he said.
He also noted that the district added four new substitute secretaries to the substitute list.
The board also conducted the following business:
– Awarded the following contracts for upcoming renovations to the administration building: Maracon Inc. for general contracting, $55,590; Whitby Inc. for HVAC contracting, $14,200; Newco Mechanical for plumbing, $5,900; Miller Electrical Co. for electrical work, $8,700; and W.H. Farwell Co. for furnishings, $47,670.30.
– Named Charles Randy Brook as the acting assistant principal at Albert Gallatin South Middle School.
– Hired Dan Palm as the head baseball coach at Albert Gallatin High School for the next three years.
– Approved a trip for the AG competition cheerleaders to attend the National Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 7-10.
– Announced that disabled students and their families are invited to attend a Transition Awareness Fair at Penn State Fayette Campus on Jan. 30.
