The education council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce honored Mark Simpson from Hopwood, a junior at Laurel Highlands High School, as student of the month for December. The son of William and Kathleen Simpson, Mark is undecided which post-secondary school he will attend, but he plans to major in engineering.

This junior shows community involvement by working with the Hopwood Village Project.

The district representative for the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference, Mark is a member of the Interact Club, the marching band and the Academic Quiz Team, which placed him on the KDKA Hi-Q Team. He has earned several honors and awards, including American Mathematics Association AMC-10 Team winner.
