Council agrees to have company handle lights
VANDERBILT – Council on Tuesday agreed to have Belvetone Systems of Leisenring take down and store the borough’s new Christmas lights. Councilwoman Betty Keffer said that when the borough bought the Christmas lights from Belvetone, the company agreed to the takedown service.
“I think they are waiting for us to get in touch with them about the lights,” said Keffer. “I know it was in the contract for them to take down the lights and store them for a year.”
Secretary Mary Jane Winterhalter reminded council that Belvetone billed the borough an additional $75 for inspecting the utility poles after the lights were put up, a fee not listed in the original contract.
In other unrelated matters, Councilman Orlando Molinaro said that the DL&V Volunteer Fire Company is still getting billed by Fayette Waste of Waltersburg for garbage pickup.
“I thought our contract … said that the fire department was free,” said Molinaro. “I don’t think they should have to pay.”
Solicitor Michael Macko said the fire department should not be paying a bill, but he added that fire department officials would have to take care of the problem themselves.
The council also conducted the following business:
– Announced that the Yough Sanitary Authority will meet Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Councilman Joe Ambrose reminded the board that everyone is invited to attend the public meeting.
– Agreed to have Keffer look into purchasing some type of banners to be placed on utility poles to highlight the town’s heritage.
– Talked about purchasing a vacant house and revamping it. Councilman Sam Guariglia said the house, on Main Street, used to be a blacksmith shop.
– Held an 11-minute executive session to discuss personnel but took no action when they reconvened.
