Souper Bowl raising funds to aid poor, hungry
Fayette County Community Action Agency’s (FCCAA) Food Bank is preparing for the Souper Bowl on Sunday. In this Souper Bowl, though, there are no losers.
Everyone wins.
The FCCAA Food Bank invites Fayette County churches, civic groups, organizations, and businesses to participate in the event. Groups are asked to request $1 from each of their members planning to watch Super Bowl XXXVII.
While enjoying the game with family and friends, individuals are asked to think of the less fortunate, the homeless, the hungry and the needy children and families in Fayette County.
According to FCCAA officials, by participating in Souper Bowl, individuals will help supply food to the Salvation Army, church pantries, soup kitchens, shelters for the homeless and abused, day care centers, group homes and other nonprofit organizations that feed the less fortunate in our community.
FCCAA officials said its food bank receives little direct government funding and relies heavily on the contributions from local community supporters.
Officials say that every dollar that is raised through Souper Bowl Sunday will provide over $10 worth of nutritional food for the needy in Fayette County.
Last year, with the community’s assistance, officials said the Food Bank raised over $2,500 to help feed the hungry in Fayette County through Souper Bowl Sunday.
According to the agency, over 26,000 individuals are served annually through the Food Bank’s network of 47 pantries in Fayette County. Through this network, over 1 million pounds of food is distributed each year.
