John E. “Hap” Franks Jr.
John E. “Hap” Franks Jr., 82, of Uniontown, Pa., formerly of Grindstone, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Filbert, Pa., a son of the late Katherine (Rush) and John E. Franks Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (Bowman) Franks on Sept. 14, 1992; and a brother Joseph Franks.
John was a wonderful and caring husband and father, and a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a retired mine supervisor with Maple Creek Mine, a member of American Legion Post No. 0275 of Grindstone, and Past Member of B.P.O. Elks No. 370. He loved to play cards with his friends, and was a very kind hearted and caring man. Although raised with few comforts, he made sure that those he loved had all he could offer. Although he will be sadly missed, we find comfort in the spirit and happiness in which he lived his life.
He is survived by his son, John E. “Buzzy” Franks III and his wife, Antoinette of Tower Hill, Pa.; three grandchildren, John J. Franks and wife, Tori of Brownsville, Pa., Julie Coddington and husband, Terry of Fairchance, Pa., and Stephanie Fowler and husband, Timmy of Cumberland, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Coddington, Ryan “Biggie” Coddington, Allison Fowler and Cameron Fowler; a brother, Robert Franks and wife, Louise of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister, Betty Casey of the State of California; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, until 10 a.m., when a blessing service will be held, with the Rev. Fr. Micah E. Kozoil officiating. Entombment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa. A Wake Service will be held today at 3 p.m.
