Stephen W. Marsinek
Stephen W. (Steve) Marsinek, 87, of Uniontown, Pa., beloved father and grandfather, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born July 9, 1915, in Elm Grove, Pa., the son of the late John Marsinek and Mary Stiner Marsinek.
He was a member of St. John the Byzantine Catholic Church in Uniontown, and was a World War II veteran. A Staff Sergeant, he was a gunner with the 89th Attack Squadron in the Air Force. He served in the South Pacific and was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Medal.
Steve worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, and was a bituminous mine electrical inspector until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid sportsman. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kornick Marsinek in 1981; brothers, George Marsinek, Andrew Marsinek, John Marsinek, William Marsinek and Joseph Marsinek; and his sisters, Margaret Karkolis, Elizabeth Frankos, Mary Soznak, Katherine Nedley and Anna Frankos.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Mary Kathryn Stiver and husband, Richard of Hopwood, Barbara Ann Franczyk and husband, William of Uniontown, and Betsy M. Peters and husband, John of Uniontown; grandchildren, Richard D. Stiver, William Franczyk Jr., and wife, Lucinda, Stephen P. Franczyk, Kristin Peters Marcoz and husband, Donald, Jonathan C. Peters and Kimberly A. Peters; and a sister, Helen Geary of Connellsville.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, until 10:30 a.m., when a Panachida Service will be held, followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m., in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Wesdock as celebrant and the Rev. Fr. Jude Peters as concelebrant. Interment will follow in St. John’s Byzantine Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by VFW Post No. 47. Parastas Service will be held today at 7 p.m.
